Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)

Determination of Viscoelastic Properties by an Oscillating Force

To determine viscoelastic material properties (e.g. the complex Young’s modulus and damping values) our laboratory is equipped with a GABO "Eplexor 500 N" DMA from NETZSCH Gerätebau GmbH (Germany).

Several measurement modes are available (3/4-point bending, uniaxial compression, tension, shear). The instrument allows measurements from ca. -150 °C to 1500 °C at frequencies from 0.1 to 100 Hz and maximum total forces (static + dynamic) of 25 N to 1500 N using load cells optimized for different force ranges. Maximum temperature, force and sample dimensions depend on the measurement mode. Possible sample dimensions are in range of several cm.
